UP Warriors suffers a setback before the upcoming season of WPL, head coach John Lewis leaves the team

Under the coaching of Luis, UP qualified for the first season of WPL.
Before the start of the upcoming season of Women’s Premier League (WPL), a big news is coming out from the UP Warriors camp. Let us tell you that the team’s head coach John Lewis has distanced himself from this role. He was associated with the UP team since the beginning of the tournament, and under his coaching, the team also qualified for the playoffs in the first season.
So, in the year 2024, UP Warriors finished the WPL season at the fourth position. This season, the team was able to win only three out of the 8 matches played. Also, before the last season, the team’s regular captain Alyssa Healy was injured, due to which the management handed over the captaincy to Deepti Sharma, an experienced all-rounder of the Indian women’s team.
But once again the team could not show anything special under Deepti’s captaincy. The team won only three out of the 8 matches played and finished last in the points table. So, under the coaching of John Lewis, UP Warriors won only 9 out of the 25 matches played. These figures may not have been satisfactory to the team management, due to which now both have decided to separate.
Lewis resigned last year
It is worth noting that before taking up this role in UP Warriors, John Lewis was coaching the England women’s cricket team since 2022. But after losing 16-0 against Australia in the Women’s Ashes series last season, he resigned from this role.
But under the coaching of John Lewis, UP Warriors had made a special record in their name, in which they scored 225 runs in an innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore last year. Let us tell you that this is the highest team score in the three-year history of the Women’s Premier League.
