Welcome to Headset On, Brain Off

Hey there! My name’s Nick, but if you’re a recruiter or looking for a technical co-founder, feel free to call me anytime, lol.

Welcome to Headset On, Brain Off, where I casually share what I’ve learned working in XR, mostly so I don’t forget it myself, but also to (hopefully) save you a few hours of frustration. If you find the name, tagline, or logo a bit cringe, blame ChatGPT. If you love them… well, that’s just how creative I am.

I’ve been building a project over the past few months (more on that soon), and it’s had me deep in the Unity trenches, working full-time in XR. Honestly, if you spend 6+ hours a day inside Unity, even a rock would pick up a few tricks. So, this blog is my space to share those lessons - the stuff that took me hours to figure out so you don’t have to pull out your hairs or question your life choices.

It’s part documentation, part therapy, part community-building. Most of it will revolve around XR development (Unity, C#, XR Interaction Toolkit, you get the idea), but honestly, a lot of the lessons apply more broadly. Who knows - maybe you’re a marketing pro and learning about LODs and finite state machines is exactly what you need to take your team to the next level ¯\(ツ)/¯

If you haven’t already picked up on it: this blog is super laid back. I’m not here to lecture or write a textbook. I want the posts to feel like chatting with a mate after a long day. There’ll be real code, realistic examples, and hopefully a few “aha” moments. But honestly, I’m figuring it out as I go - so we’re kind of in this together. I mean it’s only my third day out here idk (iykyk)

One last thing (and it’s important):

I don’t know everything.

In fact, I know very little in the grand scheme of things. So if I ever post something that could be done better - a more efficient function, a cleaner pattern - please, drop a comment. I’ll always do my best to research and make sure what I’m posting is solid, but I’m not above being wrong. I’ll also link out to smarter people when they explain things better than I can (which is often).

That’s all for now.

Catch you in the next post, could be tomorrow, could be next year. No one knows.
