Healing Grows Here: Our Take on the Changing Landscape of Addiction Recovery

A recent study from UT Health San Antonio really caught our attention. It showed that people using the WEconnect Health app reduced their opioid use by 35% and stayed in treatment 19% longer than those relying only on medication. Meanwhile, the CDC is reporting a 24% drop in overdose deaths over the past year proof that we are, finally, making progress in the fight against addiction.

As a recovery center deeply rooted in community and connection, we see this as a powerful sign: when people are given the right tools and support, healing happens.

But we also know healing doesn’t always look like a hospital or a high-tech platform. Sometimes, it looks like a chicken coop, a garden bed, or a quiet sunrise over an East Texas field.

Why We Built Ranch House Recovery

We started Ranch House Recovery in Elgin, Texas, because we’ve lived the battle with addiction ourselves. We’re a father-and-son team who chose to turn pain into purpose and turn a working farm into a safe place for men to reclaim their lives.

This work began from a very real place. Our founder Brandon often says,

“This place, in a way, started out of his co-dependency towards me.”

That moment happened when Dylon, his son and our co-founder, relapsed just days before we were set to open. But that experience only deepened our commitment to create something honest a place that doesn’t pretend, but walks with people through the mess and into meaning.

What We Offer: Recovery That Gets Its Hands Dirty

At Ranch House, we don’t just treat addiction we rebuild lives through work, rhythm, and responsibility. Here’s what makes us different:

A Farm-Based Model

We grow onions, cabbage, and other crops. We raise chickens, goats even a horse. Every resident contributes to the farm land. The harvest helps fund scholarships for those who can’t afford treatment, creating a cycle of healing that feeds itself.

Peer-Led, Heart-First Care

We’ve been there. Our team brings lived experience to the table and we meet every client with dignity and grace. There’s no “us” and “them” here just people helping people.

Flexible Programs

Whether a man stays for 30, 60, or 90 days, we meet him where he’s at. We build around what works not what fits in a billing cycle.

Impact That’s Growing

Since we opened, over 105 men have come through our program. Many leave with not just sobriety, but skills, confidence, and a deeper sense of who they are.

Addiction Recovery Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

We love seeing promising results from tech-driven solutions and national efforts. But our calling is a little different. We believe recovery can also be rooted in routine, fresh air, physical labor, and community trust.

In a world that moves fast and demands quick fixes, we’ve chosen to slow down. We don’t promise instant results. What we offer is the space, structure, and soul needed for real, lasting transformation.

Let’s Keep the Progress Going Together

As overdose rates decline and innovative treatments gain ground, we believe there’s room and a real need for places like ours in the broader recovery ecosystem.

If you or someone you love is struggling, know this:
You’re not broken. You’re not alone. And your recovery might just start with pulling weeds and gathering eggs.

We’re here when you’re ready. And we believe in the version of you that’s still growing.
