How I Built a QR Menu App “Tixy” After Working in Hotels, And Why It’s Funding My Wedding

#Who I Am

My name is Hossam, and I’m not your typical SaaS founder.
I spent two years working in hotels in Egypt, not as a CTO, but as a bellman, receptionist, and maintenance guy. I learned everything about how hotels run from the inside. And I saw how broken and outdated the hospitality tech really is.

#The Problem

**Every time a guest asked for an English or any other Language (Japanese, Spanish, French,….) menu, or a restaurant printed 30 copies after a price change, I thought:

“There has to be a better way.”**

Most places used WhatsApp images as menus or clunky PDFs. No control. No analytics. No guest experience.

#The Idea

That’s when I started building Tixy QRMenu:
A smart, contactless QR menu and reservation system for restaurants and hotels.

• Guests scan a fixed QR code (no app needed)

• It auto-detects their phone language and shows the menu accordingly

• Owners can control prices, schedule discounts, and manage tables, all from a clean dashboard

• Works in 10+ languages and across all browsers

#The Stack

I built the app solo using:

• Frontend: NextJS, React, Tailwind, DaisyUI

• Backend: Supabase (for auth and DB)

• Other tools: Kashier (for payments)

#The Challenge

I had zero funding, limited resources, and big responsibilities.
Why? Because I’m also getting married soon❤️
I’m building a startup and a future family at the same time. It’s not easy, but that’s why I’ve launched a GoFundMe to raise $10k for marketing, server costs, and the wedding itself.
