She’s seizing the moment enthusiastically and doing everything. She can catch the eye of lead coach Sean Lynn. When I received the call from Sean informing me I’d been picked for the wider squad. I genuinely couldn’t believe it at first. Said the former Whitchurch High School student, who started young at Cardiff Quins during her early teenage years.

It was one of those surreal moments for me. Once I processed the announcement, the first thing I did after hanging up was to phone my parents. Because they’ve always been my greatest supporters, and they were equally thrilled about the update. Joining the camp, I already recognised a few of the teammates from earlier Welsh rugby setups…so that helped.

But it still felt slightly unfamiliar, like arriving on the first day at a new school. However, once we got going, I found my rhythm quite fast. I’ve always liked pushing my limits, and I think my recent rugby experiences have prepared me to be here. Now I’m simply trying to give my all in each training session and see what comes from it.

Lockwood refers to the past few years, and they’ve undoubtedly been eventful in her rugby journey. In 2023, she represented Wales at the Commonwealth Youth Games sevens competition. In Trinidad and Tobago, which was a truly unforgettable adventure. Representing Wales in Trinidad and Tobago was incredible, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, she shared.

The extreme weather and humidity were unlike anything I had ever dealt with. And although I hadn’t played much sevens at that elite level before. I gained a huge amount from it. That very year, I transitioned to Hartpury College to pursue both academics and rugby. And it has proven to be one of the smartest choices I’ve made so far.

WRWC Tickets: Seren Lockwood Levels Up at Hartpury

From a rugby standpoint, it enabled me to compete and train at a stronger standard consistently. And dig into the intricacies of playing as a number nine and the many aspects of the scrum-half role. Being part of Hartpury exposed me to BUCS Super Rugby. It is a competitive and high-standard tournament.

I also turned out for Gwalia Lightning during the most recent Celtic Challenge season. And I played for Wales at the under-18 Women’s Six Nations Festival on home ground in 2024. And again in the 2025 edition held at Wellington College in England. It’s been a hectic period, but a very positive one. And I’m embracing all the opportunities coming my way right now.

Together with several other under-18 internationals. Lockwood got her initial experience with the senior Wales setup during the buildup to the Guinness Women’s Six Nations held in March and April. Though they weren’t officially named in the squad at that stage. They joined the broader group as nationally recognised prospects.
