Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match in the second Test between England and India. The Indian Cricket Team secured a commanding victory over England by 336 runs in the second Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 series, held at Edgbaston, Birmingham. This win marked India’s first-ever Test victory at this historic venue.

Indian captain Shubman Gill earned the Player of the Match award for his exceptional batting performance. The right-handed batsman scored a brilliant double century (269) in the first innings, helping India post a massive total of 587. In the second innings, he continued his dominance with another century (161), setting a daunting target of 608 runs for England.

England’s side, led by Ben Stokes, struggled against India’s relentless bowling attack during their chase. Akash Deep was the standout bowler, claiming a six-wicket haul to bowl England out for 271. The right-arm pacer finished the match with an impressive 10 wickets, including four in the first innings.

Shubman Gill on Feeling Confident After Winning POTM in Edgbaston Test

At the post-match presentation, Indian captain Shubman Gill praised his team’s exceptional bowling and fielding performance during the match.

Shubman Gill: “We executed everything we planned after the first game perfectly. Our bowling and fielding were outstanding to watch. On this kind of pitch, we knew that posting 400-500 runs would keep us competitive. We certainly won’t drop as many catches as we did in Headingley,” Gill said.

He went on to highlight the fast bowlers’ impact: “The pace attack was magnificent. The way we dismantled the top order was crucial. Both main bowlers performed brilliantly, and though Prasidh didn’t take as many wickets, he bowled exceptionally well. Akash Deep showed immense heart, consistently hitting the right areas and lengths, making the ball move both ways — which is incredibly tough on these wickets. He was simply magnificent for us.”

Speaking about his own batting, Shubman Gill expressed confidence in his form. “I’m feeling comfortable with my game. If my contributions help us win the series, that would make me even happier. Every day is a learning experience. Whenever I step out to bat, I focus on playing and thinking purely as a batsman. Sometimes, when you think as a captain, you tend to avoid risks, but as a batsman, taking some calculated risks is necessary,” he concluded.

The five-match Test series is now tied 1-1 after India’s win in the second Test. England had secured victory in the first Test by five wickets. The two teams will face off again in the third Test at Lord’s, starting July 10.
