Digvesh Rathi expected to earn more in the DPL than in the IPL after being bought by South Delhi SuperStarz at the auction.

Digvesh Rathi was re-signed by South Delhi Superstarz for the DPL 2025 season. On Sunday, July 6, Digvesh emerged as one of the most expensive picks at the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction. After it was confirmed that the mystery spinner would re-enter the auction and given the strong interest from teams willing to invest heavily in him, it was expected that he would be among the top selections.
The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced that the DPL 2025 will expand from six to eight teams this season. The two new franchises, New Delhi Tigers and Outer Delhi Warriors, will join the existing teams: North Delhi Strikers, Central Delhi Kings, Purani Dilli, West Delhi Lions, East Delhi Riders, and South Delhi Superstarz — promising a more competitive and thrilling T20 league.
In the previous DPL edition, Digvesh Rathi took 14 wickets in 10 innings for South Delhi Superstarz. Entering the auction with a base price of Rs 10 lakhs, Digvesh was ultimately re-signed by South Delhi Superstarz for a massive Rs 38 lakhs.
Digvesh Rathi Re-Signs with Delhi SuperStarz, Earns More Than His IPL Salary
Digvesh Rathi, along with Abhishek Sharma, remains a key figure in the 2025 cricket season. Purani Dilli had also shown interest in signing Digvesh, but the winning bid came from South Delhi’s Delhi SuperStarz. Had he joined Purani Dilli, Digvesh would have played alongside his IPL captain, Rishabh Pant.
Interestingly, Digvesh Rathi will earn more in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) than in the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the IPL 2025 mega-auction, he was picked by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at his base price of Rs 30 lakh. However, his DPL contract will pay him Rs 8 lakh more than his IPL salary.
Digvesh Rathi was the leading wicket-taker for the Lucknow Super Giants during an impressive IPL season, claiming 14 wickets in 13 matches. Despite a one-match suspension during the season, he remained a hot topic, especially for his distinctive “signature” celebration.
It’s rare for a player to earn more in a state-level T20 league than in the IPL. The only comparable case was Sai Sudharsan, who earned Rs 21.6 lakh from the TNPL’s Lyca Kovai Kings in 2023—slightly higher than his Rs 20 lakh IPL salary from 2022 to 2024.
