My Internship Experience

A few weeks back, I got selected for a 1-month internship in cybersecurity, and to be honest — I didn’t expect it to happen. It started with an application and a little hope

The First Day:

Like any new beginning, my first day was filled with introductions. I met my fellow interns (who all seemed so confident 😅) and was introduced to the mentors who would guide us.

It wasn’t too technical on Day 1 — just setting up the environment, basic onboarding, and trying not to get overwhelmed.

🐢 Week 1: A Slow Start

The first week felt pretty chill. We had some introductory sessions about cybersecurity, but most of it was still surface-level.

💥 Week 2: The Real Hustle Begins

That’s when everything kicked in. From quiet days to back-to-back sessions — my brain was packed with new information.

Here's a glimpse of the topics we dove into:

🛡️ OWASP Top 10 Vulnerabilities (I even started a blog series on this!)

📶 OSI Model — finally understood how the layers stack up.

🔐 CIA Triad — Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability.

🌍 What is NAT? — and how it works in IP mapping.

🧪 Nmap — scanning, discovering open ports, and feeling like a hacker 👀

🖥️ Linux Basics & Commands — from creating files to navigating directories.

At first, it felt like too much. But something clicked.

The more I explored, the more curious I became. I started connecting the dots — between theory, tools, and real-world use.
Before this internship, cybersecurity felt like a mysterious zone. But now? It feels like a playground.

I found myself googling terms after sessions, writing notes, and slowly… I started grasping things.

🎯 What This Internship Gave Me:

  1. A structured yet free space to learn by doing

  2. A chance to meet amazing mentors and peers

  3. Confidence to write technical blogs and share what I learn

  4. A new passion I hadn’t expected: Cybersecurity

📌 Final Thoughts

If you’re just getting started in tech or feeling unsure about which field to explore — try something outside your comfort zone. I did, and I found something that now feels like a part of my journey.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve done a similar internship or want to get into cybersecurity — happy to share more!

P.S. — I’ve started writing about the OWASP Top 10! If you haven’t read it yet…check this out!
