Day 4 of Change: "Some Title" (Seriously, I Didn’t Even Think of One)

Okay, I’ll be honest—I absolutely didn’t feel like writing today. Not even a little bit. Zero motivation. But I made a commitment to this “daily writing” thing, and here I am, showing up for Day 4, typing out words just because I said I would. That’s the only reason. And I don’t even know what I’m going to write about. But let’s go with something that’s been floating around in my head lately: Odd Taxi.
No, I’m not talking about a weird-looking car or an Uber driver with a quirky playlist. I’m talking about an anime called Odd Taxi. It’s not the most famous anime out there. It’s not trending. I don’t even know if it won any awards. But I watched it recently, and I really liked it—and that’s enough reason for me to talk about it today.
Let me try to explain what Odd Taxi is without spoiling too much. Imagine a city that feels familiar, yet something is just...off. The main character is a walrus (yes, a walrus) named Hiroshi Odokawa. He drives a taxi and lives a very lowkey life. No family, barely any friends. The only people he sort of talks to are his doctor, Gouriki, and an old high school buddy, Kakihana.
Now, here’s where things get interesting. The passengers that get into Odokawa’s taxi? They’re all weird in their own way. A college student desperate to go viral. A mysterious nurse who’s clearly hiding something. A struggling comedy duo trying to make it big. A gangster named Dobu. An up-and-coming idol group called Mystery Kiss. At first, it all feels like disconnected, random stories.
But then it doesn’t.
All these weird conversations, all these strange characters—they slowly start to connect. Piece by piece, a bigger story starts forming. A missing girl. A dark secret. A web of lies. And right at the center of it all? Our quiet, blunt, no-nonsense taxi driver Odokawa. Suddenly, he's not just a passive observer. The yakuza want him. Corrupt cops are watching him. Everything gets messy, and he has to figure out what’s really going on.
What I liked about Odd Taxi is that it didn’t try too hard to be flashy. It’s subtle. It’s weird. It’s smart. And somehow, it sticks with you. The art style is simple, the story is layered, and the characters? Surprisingly deep. You start watching thinking it’s just an animal-themed slice-of-life anime, but by the end, you're like, “Wait, what just happened?”
So yeah. That’s today’s post. I didn’t know what to write, so I wrote about Odd Taxi. It’s weird and underrated, just like how I’m feeling today. Maybe tomorrow I’ll have more energy or a better idea. Or maybe I’ll just talk about another random anime I liked. We’ll see. Either way, I showed up. Day 4 done.
