Why I’m Starting Cyber Security From Scratch?

Hi, I'm new here and thought I should share my purpose for being here.

As I sit down to write this, I'm filled with a mix of emotions - excitement, nervousness, and determination. I'm about to embark on a journey into cybersecurity, a field that I never thought I'd be interested in until my life took a drastic turn. My relative was recently a victim of a robbery, and the culprits used her identity to extort her acquaintances. Later on, I felt prey to that too. Knowing that someone held so much information about me and could use it as he pleases was unacceptable to me. These incidents changed everything for me. I realized that I wanted to be part of the solution to protect myself and people in my community from falling prey to cyber threats.

After my experience and that of my relative, I knew I had to do more. I want to make a difference in my community by empowering people with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe online. I'm not just motivated by the desire for a high-paying job or a prestigious title; I'm driven by the need to protect my loved ones and those around me.

So, why cybersecurity? For me, it's about taking control of my own digital life and that of others. I've seen firsthand how cyber threats can devastate individuals and families.

I have some prior experience in IT, but I wish to start from scratch. For starters, I have a 90 day plan that I will be following. The plan consists of four phases that will be handled in 12 weeks. With a total of approximately 20 hours of weekly commitment. Each phase will be handled as follows;

Phase 1"Foundation": From weeks 1-3. I will be focusing on Basic IT, networking, OS. I will provide weekly blogs.

Phase 2 "Hands-On Skills": From weeks 4-6. I will be do Labs (TryHackMe, Linux, Windows, commands). I will configure a VM and provide weekly blogs.

Phase 3 "Threat & Defense": From weeks 7-9. Here, I will focus on attacks, detection, hardening. I will provide weekly blogs.

Phase 4 "Portfolio + Job Prep Week": From weeks 10-12. I do Projects. The update Portfolio, CV, LinkedIn.

What drives me is the thought of making a real impact on people's lives. I want to be part of a community that's working together to create a safer online environment. I'm excited about the opportunity to work on challenging projects, stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, and continuously learn and grow.

My Goal by the end of this 90 days plan is to land my first cybersecurity internship, freelance gig, or junior role OR become eligible for CompTIA Security+ certification prep with a portfolio to prove it.

I'm aware that my journey won't be easy. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments of frustration. But I'm determined to push through and make it work.

As I embark on this journey into cybersecurity, I'm filled with a sense of purpose and determination. I know that it won't be easy but I'm ready for the challenge.
