England clinched a thrilling 22-run victory over India in the third Test of the five-match series at Lord’s. Defending a modest target of 193, the hosts bowled out the visitors for 170 in the second innings to seal the win.

Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes were instrumental in England’s triumph, picking up three wickets each to dismantle the Indian batting lineup. Despite a valiant unbeaten 61 from Ravindra Jadeja that kept India’s hopes alive, the hosts held their nerve to edge past the visitors and take a 2-1 lead in the series.

England pulled off their 10th smallest victory in Test cricket by edging past India with a narrow 22-run win in the Lord’s Test. This tight finish adds to England’s long list of nail-biting Test triumphs.

Their slimmest ever win came in the iconic 2005 Ashes series, where they defeated Australia by just two runs at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Another famous close encounter saw England beat Australia by three runs in Melbourne back in 1982. In 1894, they also managed a 10-run victory over the same opponents in Sydney.

Interestingly, nine of England’s ten smallest Test victories have come against their historic rivals, Australia, underlining the intensity and closely contested nature of their long-standing cricketing rivalry.

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance in the Lord’s Test. England, after choosing to bat first, posted a total of 387 in their first innings, led by a brilliant century from Joe Root. India responded strongly with an identical total of 387, thanks to a superb hundred by KL Rahul.

In England’s second innings, Washington Sundar starred with the ball, taking four wickets to help bowl out the hosts for just 192. However, India’s batting lineup faltered in the fourth innings, collapsing during the chase of a modest 193-run target.

With their win in the Lord’s Test, England have taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. They secured a five-wicket victory in the first Test but suffered a heavy 336-run defeat in the second Test at Birmingham. The fourth Test is scheduled to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
