Rishabh Pant was hit on his left index finger while keeping wickets during a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. After the third Test against England, Indian captain Shubman Gill gave an important injury update on Pant, confirming that the wicket-keeper batter is fine and expected to be fit for the next match in the five-game series.
Shubman Gill: The Indian team faced a serious injury concern during the third Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. On the opening day, Pant sustained the injury when struck on his finger while keeping wickets. The impact appeared severe, as Pant had to leave the field, and Dhruv Jurel came on as the substitute wicket-keeper. Although Pant did not return to keep wickets, he did bat in both innings, though the pain was clearly visible.
Despite the injury, Pant took painkillers to bat in the first innings, playing a brilliant knock of 74 runs. However, in the second innings, his discomfort was more noticeable while batting, which likely affected his ability to score heavily during the chase.
“He should be fit for the next Test,” says Shubman Gill on Rishabh Pant
As the Lord’s Test concluded, captain Shubman Gill provided an update on vice-captain Rishabh Pant’s fitness. Pant underwent scans which showed no serious injury, and Shubman Gill confirmed that the wicketkeeper-batsman is expected to be ready for the upcoming match.
Speaking to the media, Shubman Gill said, “Rishabh went for scans and there’s no major injury, so he should be fine for the next Test.”
Regarding the Lord’s Test, India suffered a narrow 22-run defeat. On the final day, chasing 135 runs for victory, India had a poor start, losing wickets in quick succession. Ravindra Jadeja fought valiantly with an unbeaten 61, supported well by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
Bumrah and Siraj together faced over 80 balls, showing resilience, but ultimately India was bowled out for 170, falling short by 22 runs. With this result, England leads the five-match series 2-1.
