What Would My Dream Job Really Look Like?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately—not just about where I can work, but where I want to work. What would it actually look like to have a job that challenges me technically, fulfils me personally, and fits into a life I love? This isn’t just about job titles or fancy perks. It’s about building a career that feels aligned with who I am, what I believe, and how I want to live.

As I’m halfway into my Outreachy internship and looking toward the future, that question has taken on more meaning. Not just in terms of technical challenges or salary, but the whole picture—how I want to work and how I want to live.

Here’s the thing: I want to build great things with great minds—things that positively affect people’s lives and help them get shit done. But I also want time for my personal relationships—my family. And I don’t think those two things have to be mutually exclusive.

The False Choice That Isn’t

Too often in tech, we're presented with this false choice: either you're “all in” on your career (which apparently means sacrificing everything else), or you’re not serious about making an impact.

That’s bullshit.

I’ve seen what happens when people pour everything into work at the expense of their relationships and well-being. They burn out. They lose perspective. And ironically, their work suffers—because they’re not drawing from the full richness of human experience.

I want to work somewhere that gets it—that understands a fulfilled person is a better contributor. Where taking time to nurture your relationships, your faith, your whole self isn’t seen as a lack of ambition—but as essential fuel for doing your best work.

What “Great Things” Means to Me

When I say I want to “build great things,” I’m not talking about chasing vanity metrics or building flashy features just to say we did it.

I mean creating technology that actually helps people.

Working on Scribe showed me what that feels like—building tools that help people communicate more clearly and confidently. That’s the kind of impact I want to keep having: removing friction from people’s lives and helping them accomplish what matters.

Great things look like:

  • 🧰 Developer tools that make other engineers more productive

  • 🗣️ NLP and speech tech that makes human-computer interaction more natural

  • ⚙️ Systems that scale gracefully and handle real-world complexity

  • 🛠️ Infrastructure that accelerates product development

  • 🌍 Open-source tools that genuinely empower the developer community

Think about the engineering behind Netflix—not just the content, but the systems that deliver seamless experiences to millions. That’s the kind of “get shit done” engineering I want to be part of.

Working With Great Minds

The “great minds” part? It’s just as important.

I’m drawn to cultures like Netflix’s “freedom and responsibility”—places where:

  • Engineers solve complex problems with clarity and care

  • Code quality, architecture, and long-term thinking matter

  • Learning and mentorship aren’t extras—they’re part of the culture

I want to work with people who:

  • Love wrestling with real technical challenges

  • Share knowledge and build together

  • Believe diverse perspectives make better products

  • Care deeply about helping real users accomplish real goals

  • Are committed to continuous growth, not just shipping features

I’m especially interested in developer tools, engineering infrastructure, and scalable systems—places where complexity serves a real purpose.

The Personal Side Can’t Be Ignored

Here’s something I care deeply about: family and meaningful relationships.

I believe that doing great work shouldn’t require sacrificing the people who matter most. I want a career where excellence is sustainable—where I can show up fully as an engineer without having to trade away the time and space I need to stay grounded and connected.

For me, being family-oriented isn’t a limitation—it’s fuel. It’s what keeps me balanced, motivated, and energised to do great work. The right environment respects that.

I’m looking for teams that get it—places where:

  • Work-life boundaries are respected

  • Results matter more than hours logged

  • People are encouraged to have lives beyond their job titles

  • There’s a culture of trust and understanding around what makes people whole

That’s the kind of environment where I can do my best work—and help others do theirs too.

My Path Forward

Right now, I’m focused on deepening my skills in backend engineering and machine learning—especially through open-source work. Because it is the best way to grow? Build real things that help real people.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • 🧑‍💻 Freelance projects that value quality and flexibility

  • 🌐 Open-source contributions with real-world impact

  • 🛠️ Dev tools and infrastructure projects that make engineering better

  • 🏡 Remote-friendly teams that care about results, not hours

  • 🚀 Engineering cultures that invest in people’s long-term growth

I’m open to relocating anywhere in the world for a role that offers both growth and quality of life. I’ve already proven I can thrive in remote, international setups—and I’m hungry for the next big challenge.

🌍 The Vision

My dream job? It’s simple—and powerful.

It’s working with brilliant minds on systems that help people succeed. It’s solving deep technical problems without losing sight of what really matters. It’s building products that support human flourishing, not just revenue charts.

I want to wake up excited by the problems we’re solving—and proud of the impact we’re having. I want a career that’s technically rich, personally meaningful, and deeply human.

And I want to do all of this while still having time for prayer, deep talks with my partner, and family dinners. For the relationships that give my life depth.

🤝 Let’s Connect

If you're working on:

  • Developer tools or engineering platforms

  • Scalable systems that handle real-world complexity

  • Open-source projects needing backend or mobile support

  • Infrastructure that helps engineers build better, faster

…then I want to hear from you. You can find me on LinkedIn or email me.

Because I believe we can build incredible things together, without burning out or giving up the best parts of ourselves.

That’s not a compromise.
It’s the foundation for doing our best work.
