Following the success of its first edition in Enugu Nigeria, AI EduHack returns for Season 2, with a bigger prize pool, global visibility, and expanded support for builders tackling education challenges across Africa and the Global South.

Organized by HackerX, this second edition features a $3,000+ prize pool, post-hack incubation opportunities, and a hybrid format culminating in a live Demo Day at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

🚀 What’s New in Season 2

Season 2 builds on the momentum of last year’s edition with a stronger structure and wider reach:

  • Increased prize pool – Over $3,000 in cash rewards, with dedicated prizes for judge selection and public engagement.

  • Global visibility via DoraHacks – All projects will be listed publicly and eligible for community support and voting.

  • Post-hack support – Top teams gain access to mentorship, media coverage, and an entry route into the Open Campus OC-I Incubator and EduChain’s Semester 4 hackathon (with $250K+ in prizes).

  • Security perks – The top three teams receive up to 30% audit discounts from Damocles Labs, with optional low-cost penetration testing.

🎯 Themes and Problem Areas

AI EduHack Season 2 challenges participants to design tools that respond to real-world education gaps across the Global South, especially in underserved or resource-constrained environments.

Focus areas include:

  • Offline and low-bandwidth learning tools: Projects that deliver educational content or AI-powered support without relying on fast internet or high-spec devices.

  • Local language and culture support: Tools that promote indigenous languages or embed cultural relevance into learning experiences.

  • AI and blockchain for credentialing: Solutions that use emerging tech to verify skills and learning outcomes in a transparent, portable, and trusted way.

  • Gamified or earn-to-learn models: Platforms that engage learners through points, rewards, or token-based incentives to encourage consistent participation and community-based learning.

Teams working on blockchain-based tools will deploy on EduChain, the official onchain partner for the hackathon. Outstanding projects will qualify for EduChain’s upcoming Semester 4 hackathon and gain access to the OC-I Incubator powered by Open Campus.

🏆 Prizes

AI EduHack Season 2 offers over $3,000 in cash prizes, along with mentorship, visibility, and follow-on support for high-potential teams.

Cash Prizes

  • 1st Place (Judge’s Choice): $1,500

  • 2nd Place (Judge’s Choice): $750

  • 3rd Place (#BuildInPublic + Public Votes): $500

The third-place prize goes to the team that best shares their journey and engages the community during the hackathon week (July 26–Aug 1). It’s based on a combined score across:

  • Public visibility – Sharing your journey on X (Twitter) using #AIEduHack and tagging @hackerxafrica

  • Engagement – Meaningful reposts, replies, and traction from your audience

  • DoraHacks upvotes – Support received on your project’s hackathon listing

  • Presentation – Clear storytelling, visuals, and communication across your platforms

Each of these components will be scored and weighted after the hackathon, and the top-scoring team will receive the 3rd place prize.

⚠️ Spam, bot votes, or vote manipulation will result in disqualification from this category.

Additional Perks

  • Global visibility: All submitted projects will be showcased on DoraHacks, with access to community voting and upvotes.

  • Incubation opportunities (for EduChain projects): Teams that build and deploy on EduChain will have the chance to qualify for:

    • Entry into EduChain’s Semester 4 hackathon, with a prize pool of $250K+

    • The OC-I Incubator by Open Campus

  • Security support: Top 3 teams receive up to 30% audit discounts from Damocles Labs, with optional low-cost penetration testing.
