5 Million Anime Lists Collected from MyAnimeList, Anilist, and Kitsu — A Massive Dataset for Research

2025
Over the course of approximately 2 months, I collected anime list data from over 5 million users across three major platforms: MyAnimeList, AniList, and Kitsu. To ensure data quality and relevance, I filtered out users with fewer than 5 entries in their lists — leaving a refined dataset of around 1.8 million active users. In total, this dataset includes more than 148 million individual anime ratings. Data is freshly collected so the Dataset covers the newest anime!
In this article, I’ll explore key statistics and insights from this massive dataset, accompanied by visualizations to better understand anime watching trends and user behavior across platforms.
Usage of the Data
I made a recommendation system with BERT-Transformer model with this data. you can try it out, web demo available!

Statistics
Main Statistics
The dataset reveals some clear trends among anime viewers. With an average rating of 7.65, users tend to rate anime positively, suggesting either a general satisfaction or a tendency to only rate shows they enjoyed. The presence of over 20,000 unique anime titles highlights the diversity in viewing preferences, while the sheer number of 148 million ratings across 1.77 million users demonstrates a highly engaged community.
Rating Distribution
This image shows the distribution of the ratings. It reveals that “8” is the most used rating in this dataset with 37 Million usage. 7 and 10’s usage count is both 28 Million. This pattern suggests that users tend to rate anime generously, with a noticeable bias toward scores of 8, 7, and 10.
Most Active Users
This image shows the top 20 users with the highest number of ratings. The top user has rated 10,881 anime — what an anime addict!
Most Popular Anime
This is the most rated Top 20 anime. “Attack on Titan” takes the top spot by far with approximately 1 million ratings. Nearly all of the anime in the top 20 are shounen, so we can say that users tend to like and rate shounen anime more.
