India threatens to boycott ACC meeting, Asia Cup may be cancelled!

As per the pre-determined decision, the venue of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) was fixed in Dhaka. But after the Indian cricket team’s tour to Bangladesh was postponed, the country’s cricket board BCCI requested to shift the ACC meeting to another location. But ACC President Mohsin Naqvi is accused of not responding to their request. Due to this, BCCI may boycott the ACC AGM.
This information was reported by Indian news agency ANI, citing sources. There is also uncertainty about the organization of this year’s Asia Cup. India is the host of this six-team tournament. But the ACC has not yet announced the schedule or venue of the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, unofficially, news is coming out that this top competition of Asian cricket may be held in September. A decision on which may be taken in the ACC annual meeting. The meeting is scheduled to be held in Dhaka on July 24.
But due to the recent political hostility between Bangladesh and neighboring country India, they objected to the ACC AGM venue. Meanwhile, the ACC chief is also Pakistan’s Home Minister and PCB President Mohsin Naqvi. Indian media claims that he did not respond to BCCI’s request. That is why BCCI is thinking of boycotting the upcoming ACC meeting.
A source told ANI, “The Asia Cup will take place only if the venue of the ACC meeting is shifted from Dhaka. ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is trying to put unnecessary pressure on India on this issue. We had requested him to change the venue, but we have not received any response yet. In the end, if Mohsin organizes the meeting in Dhaka, the BCCI will boycott it.”
The warning that is being heard is that if the BCCI finally follows that path, the possibility of organizing this Asia Cup may also end. Earlier, although Pakistan hosted the last 2023 Asia Cup, it was held in a hybrid model because of India. Where Rohit-Kohli played matches in Sri Lanka. There, they defeated the host Sri Lankans and won the Asia Cup title. Similarly, this year’s Champions Trophy held in Pakistan was also organized in a hybrid model. The final of the tournament, including India’s match, was also held in Dubai.
Earlier, in May, there were sudden rumors that India would not send a team to the upcoming Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Asia Cup due to border tensions with Pakistan. This was also spread that the BCCI had informed the ACC. Later, denying these rumors, BCCI Secretary Debjit Saikia said that the Indian board has not entered into discussions with anyone regarding the ACC event. The rumors of not playing the Asia Cup are just ‘imaginary’.
