The South African cricket team is gearing up for an action-packed journey over the 2024–2027 cycle as per the ICC's Future Tours Programme (FTP). With a strategic mix of home and away series, the Proteas will face top cricketing nations across formats while also preparing for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, which they will co-host. The schedule reflects a balanced approach, blending Test challenges with a strong focus on white-ball cricket.

2024: Busy Start to the Cycle

South Africa’s FTP commitments begin with a tour to the West Indies for two Tests and a T20I series. This will be followed by a trip to Bangladesh for two Test matches. Back home, they host Sri Lanka and Pakistan in multi-format series between November and January, including crucial World Test Championship fixtures.

2025: Focus on Away Tours and World Cup Prep

The Proteas are scheduled to tour Zimbabwe for Tests and a T20I tri-series involving New Zealand. They then travel to Australia and England for limited-overs contests. In the latter part of the year, South Africa will tour Pakistan and India, facing both sides in all three formats. These series will be essential for building squad depth ahead of the T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup.

2026: Fewer Tests, More White-Ball Action

Interestingly, South Africa will have no home Tests during the 2025–26 season, allowing focus on white-ball cricket and venue upgrades ahead of the World Cup. They will host the West Indies and Australia for limited-overs series and travel to New Zealand for T20Is. Bangladesh is also scheduled to tour South Africa later in the year.

2027: Final Preparations for the World Cup

South Africa’s final stretch before the World Cup includes a two-Test tour of Sri Lanka and a full home series against England. This period will be key for fine-tuning combinations and assessing player readiness.

Final Thoughts

With a carefully crafted FTP, South Africa is set to maintain a strong international presence while aligning domestic priorities. The schedule gives room for rest, squad rotation, and focused preparation, especially for the landmark 2027 World Cup on home soil. Fans can expect a thrilling mix of classic rivalries, emerging talents, and high-stakes cricket over the next three years.
