Kamboj Boosts India’s Pace Options Ahead of Manchester Test

Anshul Kamboj

Anshul Kamboj’s inclusion provides India with a surprise pace option for the upcoming fourth Test at Old Trafford, starting Wednesday. With Arshdeep Singh ruled out and Akash Deep struggling, India’s pace attack required reinforcement.

Nitish Kumar Reddy’s absence further complicated matters, prompting Kamboj’s urgent call-up to Manchester. The young pacer had recently returned from India A’s UK tour after suffering a shin injury, with Harshit Rana remaining as cover for Akash Deep. His arrival is expected to add much-needed depth to India’s depleted bowling lineup.

R Ashwin backs Anshul Kamboj

Speaking on his YouTube channel, former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin strongly endorsed his CSK teammate Anshul Kamboj for the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford. Ashwin praised Kamboj’s impressive domestic form, where he has claimed 55 wickets in just 11 games since the 2024-25 season, including a 10-wicket haul against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy.

Ashwin highlighted Kamboj’s ability to understand and execute game plans, comparing his cricketing intelligence to greats like Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah. “This England team, man to man, will not match India skills-wise. If you bring Anshul Kamboj in, I’m telling you that is a serious bowling attack,” Ashwin said. He further stressed that Kamboj’s readiness to bowl long spells in challenging English conditions would make him a perfect complement to Siraj and Bumrah, preferring him over Prasidh Krishna for the upcoming match.
