As we enter week seven of the Outreachy internship, the theme is career opportunities. This feels like the perfect time to reflect on where I see my career heading after these amazing months of learning and contributing.

My Career Direction

I’ve been working on the Wikimedia Commons Android app during my Outreachy internship, which has deepened my interest in Android development. Building real-world features, optimizing queries, and collaborating with an open-source community have all strengthened my desire to continue in this field.

Going forward, I want to explore Android development roles – whether internships, full-time positions, or even continuing to contribute to Wikimedia or similar open-source projects. I’m also interested in expanding my skills to mobile architecture patterns (like MVVM), Jetpack libraries, and Kotlin coroutines for more scalable apps.

Skills I’ve Gained

Through Outreachy and previous projects, I’ve built strong skills in:

  • Android development: Kotlin, Java, Android Studio, debugging mobile UI/UX.

  • Version control & open-source workflows: Git, GitHub, asynchronous collaboration.

  • Problem-solving: Fixing production bugs, optimising performance, improving user experience.

Opportunities I’m Looking For

Post-Outreachy, I’ll be seeking:

  • Android development internships or full-time roles (remote-friendly).

  • Opportunities to continue contributing to Wikimedia’s Android ecosystem or other impactful open-source mobile projects.

Roles where I can deepen my knowledge of modern Android tools and best practices.

Why I’m Excited

This internship has been my first deep dive into professional open-source Android development. It’s given me not just technical growth, but also the confidence to work on large-scale projects and collaborate with a global team. I’m excited to continue learning, build impactful apps, and grow my career in mobile development.

If you know of opportunities aligned with Android development, I’d love to connect!
