My Career Goals and Future Expectations in Tech.

As I approached the midpoint of my internship, I had to sit down and have a self reflection of what I wanted to do after I finish my internship. My Outreachy Internship has made me realize what I should focus on career wise. It’s not easy figuring out the path you would like to take in tech, the tech field is so broad but this experience has helped me find clarity.
What I’m doing after my internship
One of the goals I’ve set for myself after my internship would be to start looking for opportunities in the freelancing space, focusing on mobile development. I enjoy building things people can use in their everyday lives, and mobile apps are such powerful ways to reach people, especially coming from a place where phones are the primary ways to access the internet. I’m currently learning more about mobile frameworks such as React Native, Flutter and Kotlin, and I hope to deepen my skills through real world projects and contributions to open source.
I am also looking to expand my networking in search for opportunities in open source communities and organizations, similar to Wikimedia. I want to continue contributing to projects that have impact and meaning, where collaboration and community matter as much as code. It isn’t about finding a job, it’s about finding a place where I can grow technically and as a team member, contributing to something bigger than myself.
My Ideal contribution and skillset
I’m particularly interested in contributing to projects that focus on social good, education, or accessibility. Building tools that empower individuals or bridge digital divides truly excites me. I envision myself contributing to applications that simplify complex information, connect communities, or provide essential services through mobile platforms.
My current skillset includes proficiency in Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. I have a solid understanding of version control with Git and experience working with various APIs. My Outreachy internship has also sharpened my abilities in technical documentation, cross-cultural communication, and problem-solving within a collaborative environment.
Looking ahead, I'm eager to deepen my expertise in the mobile development frameworks I mentioned – React Native, Flutter, and Kotlin. I also want to explore UI/UX design principles specifically for mobile, to ensure the apps I build are not only functional but also intuitive and delightful to use. Learning about backend development to support robust mobile applications is also on my radar, as it would allow me to take on full-stack mobile projects.
I thrive in collaborative environments, valuing diverse opinions and working towards shared goals. My experience has taught me the importance of active listening and being adaptable, ensuring that I can contribute effectively to any team dynamic.
Final Thoughts
This internship has not only given me technical exposure but also the confidence to define what kind of engineer I want to be. Outreachy has opened my eyes to the vast possibilities in open source, and it has shown me that meaningful contributions can come from anywhere, no matter your background. Moving forward, I am committed to continuous learning, staying curious, and pushing myself to build tools that truly matter.
I now have direction, clarity, and purpose of what am going to do. I’m excited to keep exploring, connecting with like-minded communities, and contributing to impactful projects. The journey in tech is ongoing, but thanks to this experience, I’m walking it with more confidence, passion, and a deeper understanding of where I belong in this space.
