iOS, Open Source and Opportunities: My Career After Outreachy

Table of contents

As I move into the second half of my Outreachy internship with the Wikimedia Foundation, I have started reflecting more seriously on what I want my career to look like after this experience. Working on the Wikipedia iOS app has been both challenging and deeply rewarding. From building iOS search widgets for homescreen and lockscreen to building search intents for siri, shortcuts and spotlight, I have learned what it means to build real world product features used by thousands and millions globally.
Career Path
Before Outreachy, I was confident in my passion for building software, but this internship has helped me narrow that focus. I now know I want to grow as a mobile developer, specifically in the iOS space, while contributing to open source projects that have real world impact. I am specifically interested in opportunities where I can work in cross functional teams, contribute to softwares that has impact and continuously grow my technical skillset in Swift, SwiftUI, and modern iOS development workflows.
I am currently open to remote, on-site and hybrid iOS development opportunities most especially open source but I won't rule out or turn down opportunities to work in an enterprise environment.
iOS Development
Over the past few weeks, I have strengthened my skills in Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Xcode, Objective-C, app architecture and app design while also learning how to navigate a large, collaborative codebase. Beyond technical skills, this internship has sharpened my problem-solving, collaboration, and communication abilities. Working remotely with mentors and teammates from different parts of the world has taught me how to clearly articulate problems, ask for help when needed, and give thoughtful feedback. I believe these interpersonal skills are just as crucial as the code we write as developers.
Opportunities I am Looking For.
As my Outreachy internship draws closer to the finish line, I have been reflecting on the types of opportunities I want to pursue next. I am actively looking for a remote, full-time iOS developer role starting after September 9, 2025, ideally one that allows me to continue building impactful, user centered applications like I have been doing with the Wikipedia iOS team.
While I am primarily focused on mobile development (with Swift and SwiftUI), I am also open to roles in:
Developer tooling or infrastructure for mobile apps
Software development with Python and C++
Bitcoin Open-source software development.
Over the years I have contributed to open source organisations like Wikimedia, cypherock, sympy, BitcoinDevKit and Pyasic.
Open source has given me a righteous path in software engineering and I am willing to make use of my learnings and knowledge in a software driven world. I plan to learn, relearn and unlearn as I grow in my software engineering career. I look towards what lies ahead.
