From Refugee to Respected Dentist: Dr. Marianna Zadov’s Journey to Healing Smiles

In a world filled with fast-paced appointments and clinical routines, it’s rare to find a healthcare provider who brings both technical expertise and deep empathy to their work. Dr. Marianna Zadov is one such professional—a general dentist who not only transforms smiles but touches lives. Her journey from refugee to respected dentist is as inspiring as it is heartwarming, and it's a story of resilience, service, and compassion.
A Journey That Begins with Courage
Marianna Zadov story begins not in a dental clinic, but in a very different world. Originally from the former Soviet Union, she and her family fled their homeland to escape religious and political persecution. Like many refugees, they left behind everything they knew in search of safety, stability, and a better future.
Starting over in a new country came with its fair share of challenges—learning a new language, adapting to unfamiliar customs, and finding a sense of belonging. But these early experiences shaped Dr. Zadov’s outlook on life, instilling in her a deep understanding of struggle, strength, and the value of compassionate care.
Education with a Purpose
Determined to make the most of her new opportunities, Dr. Zadov pursued higher education with incredible focus. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from York University in Toronto, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Biology. Her choice of studies was no accident—she was already drawn to a profession where both science and human connection would play vital roles.
She went on to study at the University of Toronto, where she graduated in 2003 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). She moved to South Florida shortly after, and in 2004 she started her own private dentistry office there. In addition to her job, it marked the start of a new chapter in her quest to give back to the community that had welcomed her.
A Practice Built on Empathy and Trust
Dr. Zadov’s dental practice quickly became known not only for high-quality dental work, but for the warmth and empathy she brings to each patient encounter. Fluent in both English and Russian, she offers a safe and welcoming space for patients from all backgrounds, including many who, like her, have immigrant or refugee roots.
Her patients often describe her as kind, gentle, and deeply attentive—not just to their teeth, but to their stories. Whether someone is coming in for a routine cleaning or a more complex procedure, Dr. Zadov approaches each case with the same level of care and respect.
In an industry where some practices focus on volume and speed, Dr. Zadov stands out for taking the time to truly connect with each patient. She listens, educates, and empowers her patients to take charge of their oral health, all while making them feel comfortable and cared for.
Supporting Communities in Crisis
In recent years, Dr. Zadov’s commitment to helping others has taken on new meaning. As conflict erupted in Ukraine and affected many Russian-speaking and Ukrainian families, she recognized the urgent need for culturally sensitive dental care in her community.
Drawing on her language skills and her own background, Dr. Zadov began providing compassionate support to those affected by the crisis. For many of these patients, dental care was not just about oral hygiene—it was about finding comfort and normalcy during an incredibly difficult time.
She has offered care to recent arrivals, helped families navigate the healthcare system, and provided a listening ear to those dealing with trauma and uncertainty. It’s her way of giving back—and a powerful reminder of how healthcare can be a form of healing beyond just physical treatment.
A Philosophy Rooted in Humanity
What truly sets Dr. Zadov apart is her philosophy of care. Her background in psychology helps her understand not just what patients need medically, but emotionally. Dental anxiety, for example, is incredibly common—but she takes the time to reassure patients, explain procedures, and create a calming environment that reduces stress.
She also believes in treating each patient with dignity, no matter their background, financial status, or dental history. “Everyone deserves access to quality care,” she often says. And in her practice, that belief isn’t just words—it’s a daily reality.
Celebrating 20 Years of Smiles
As she celebrates over 20 years of serving the South Florida community, Dr. Zadov reflects on her journey with gratitude. From a young refugee to a trusted dentist and community supporter, she has never lost sight of where she came from—or the people she serves.
Her story is more than a personal triumph. It’s an example of how resilience, education, and empathy can combine to make a powerful impact—not only in one’s own life but in the lives of many others.
A Message to Patients and Beyond
For anyone searching for a dental provider who truly cares, Dr. Marianna Zadov offers more than clinical expertise—she offers a human connection. Her practice is a place where every patient is seen, heard, and cared for—not just as a set of teeth, but as a whole person.
And for those facing life’s toughest challenges, her story is proof that it's possible to overcome adversity and turn it into a force for good.
