Where I’m Headed Next

My career journey has taken some unexpected and exciting turns. I started with a background in physiology, but curiosity pulled me toward tech.

After self-learning, building projects, and navigating uncertainty, I’m currently interning at the Wikimedia Foundation through the Outreachy program. I’m building a Vue 3 + TypeScript + Codex tool that simplifies how banners are created across Wikimedia, a project that solves a real-world problem.

It’s the biggest project I’ve ever worked on. I’ve led the development from app architecture and component design to documentation and writing clean, scalable code. It has taught me a lot about collaboration, iteration, adaptability, and user-centered planning and design.

Post-Outreachy Goals

Looking ahead, I’m actively seeking a full-time frontend engineering role. I’m currently based in Nigeria, but I’m open to relocation opportunities if the fit is right.

Before this internship, I was strictly a React developer. I had never touched Vue. But within 2 weeks, I was building a large, production-grade application with it. That ability to adapt, learn, and apply quickly is something I’m proud of and hope to bring into my next role.

I also look forward to going back to contributing to open-source projects. I learnt a lot about working in large codebases and writing scalable code from that alone. I also want to keep participating in the Wikimedia community, either by contributing to the project I am working on currently or other projects where I can be of help.

Tech Stack

Languages: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript

Frameworks & Libraries: React, Redux, Next.js, Vue, Pinia, SASS, LESS, Tailwind CSS, Material UI, Codex, Firebase, GSAP

Testing: Jest, Vitest, React Testing Library (currently learning Cypress)

During my time at Wikimedia, I’ve been exploring testing, accessibility, and state management more deeply.

Beyond the Code

I value clear communication, constructive feedback, and being part of a team that supports each other’s growth. Being self-taught made me scrappy and resourceful. My non-tech background helps me approach problems from fresh angles, and I see that as a strength.

What’s Next

In the short term, I want to continue strengthening my testing and state management skills, and possibly learn a Vue meta-framework. Long term, I’d love to grow into a senior frontend engineer or expand into backend development.

After my Outreachy internship, if you’re building thoughtful, people-centered products in a collaborative environment, that’s where I want to be.
