With this knock, Joe Root went past Dravid’s 13,288 runs (164 Tests), Kallis’s 13,289 (166 Tests), and Ponting’s 13,378 (168 Tests), moving into second place on the all-time list—behind only Sachin Tendulkar.

Joe Root is now just 2,513 runs away from surpassing Sachin Tendulkar as the highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. The England batter reached this milestone after scoring a brilliant 150 in the first innings of the Manchester Test against India, taking his overall tally to 13,409 runs.

Tendulkar, widely regarded as one of the greatest to ever play the game, retired in 2013 with 15,921 Test runs from 200 matches—a record that has remained untouched for over a decade.

At 34, Joe Root still has time on his side and, with his consistent performances in recent years, he stands a strong chance of breaking the iconic record. So far, he has played 135 Tests, accumulating his runs in 286 innings at an impressive average of 51.17. His tally includes 38 centuries and 66 fifties, with his latest ton in Manchester marking his 12th against India.

Joe Root has been in sublime form during the current series as well, scoring 403 runs in seven innings at an average of 67.17, including two centuries and a half-century. If his form continues, cricket fans could witness a historic moment in the near future.
