๐ธ Day 6 โ Mastering Dakuten, Handakuten & Combo Sounds in Hiragana ๐ฏ๐ตโจ

Konnichiwa, minna-san! ๐ Today has been such a fulfilling day. Since it wasnโt a working day, I had the whole day to dedicate to my Japanese learningโand wow, what a day it was! ๐ง ๐
I spent 3 solid hours diving deep into new concepts and finally learning to read full Japanese greetings without relying heavily on Romaji. This is a big achievement for me, and Iโm so thrilled to share it with you all. ๐ช๐
๐ Revision Done:
Dakuten (ใ ใใฆใ / "ten-ten") and Handakuten (ใฏใใ ใใฆใ / "maru")
Combo sounds with small ใใปใใปใ (ya/yu/yo)
Long vowels and small ใค (ใฃ)
๐ What Are Dakuten & Handakuten?
These are small marks added to kana that change their pronunciation:
Dakuten (๏พ - looks like a double quote mark):
Changes: ใ โ ใ, ใ โ ใ, ใ โ ใ , ใฏ โ ใฐ, etc.
Example: ใ (ka) โ ใ (ga), ใ (ta) โ ใ (da)
Handakuten (๏พ - small circle):
Applies only to the H-series kana
Changes: ใฏ (ha) โ ใฑ (pa), ใฒ (hi) โ ใด (pi), etc.
๐ง Tip to Memorize:
Focus on the I-syllables like: ใ (ki), ใ (shi), ใก (chi), ใซ (ni), ใฒ (hi), ใฟ (mi), ใ (ri)
Combine with small ใใปใใปใ:
ใใ, ใใ , ใใ โ kya, kyu, kyo
ใใ, ใใ , ใใ โ sha, shu, sho
ใกใ, ใกใ , ใกใ โ cha, chu, cho
ใใ, ใใ , ใใ โ gya, gyu, gyo
ใซใ, ใซใ , ใซใ โ nya, nyu, nyo
ใฒใ, ใฒใ , ใฒใ โ hya, hyu, hyo
ใดใ, ใดใ , ใดใ โ pya, pyu, pyo
This pattern recognition trick helped me memorize combos quickly!
๐ Practice Material Used:
I tried reading the Minna no Nihongo greeting section without Romaji, and I could read almost everything fluently. That felt amazing! ๐
