Planning to undergo a laser treatment, PRP therapy, or Botox injection? Whether it’s for hair fall, skin rejuvenation, or anti-aging, knowing what to expect beforehand is key to getting optimal results and avoiding any unpleasant surprises.

At Dermacian Superspeciality Clinic, we believe in keeping our patients fully informed before any procedure. That’s why we’ve compiled this easy-to-follow pre-procedure checklist to help you prepare both mentally and physically for your session.

Why Preparation Matters

Medical aesthetic procedures may seem simple, but they still require care, caution, and a little planning. Proper preparation:

  • Improves the effectiveness of your treatment

  • Reduces the risk of side effects

  • Speeds up your recovery

  • Ensures long-lasting results

Let’s walk through everything you should know before going for Laser, PRP, or Botox treatments.

✅ General Guidelines for All Aesthetic Procedures

Before diving into procedure-specific tips, here are universal pre-treatment practices you should follow:

1. Consultation Is a Must

Book a thorough consultation with a certified dermatologist or cosmetic expert. At Dermacian, we assess your skin or scalp condition, medical history, and expectations to ensure you’re a suitable candidate.

2. Disclose Medical History & Medications

Inform your doctor about:

  • Any chronic illnesses

  • Skin conditions

  • Allergies

  • Medications (especially blood thinners, acne meds, or antibiotics)

This helps avoid potential contraindications during your treatment.

3. Avoid Sun Exposure

Stay away from direct sunlight at least 5–7 days before your session. Sunburnt or tanned skin is more prone to irritation and adverse reactions.

4. Don’t Schedule Around Big Events

Swelling, redness, or bruising may temporarily occur after procedures. Give yourself at least 1–2 weeks before attending any major social function.

💡 Before Laser Treatments (Skin Resurfacing, Tattoo Removal, Hair Reduction)

Laser treatments work by delivering targeted beams of energy to your skin or hair follicles. Whether you're coming in for laser hair removal, pigmentation correction, or tattoo reduction, here’s what to keep in mind:

✔️ Do’s:

  • Avoid Waxing, Plucking, or Bleaching the treatment area for 2–4 weeks prior

  • Shave the area 24 hours before (especially for laser hair removal)

  • Keep your skin clean—no creams, deodorants, or makeup on the day of the procedure

  • Wear loose, breathable clothing if your body is being treated

❌ Don’ts:

  • Don’t use retinol or AHA/BHA products for at least 5 days prior

  • Don’t tan or use self-tanners

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment

⚠️ Important Note:

Patients with herpes outbreaks, eczema, or active acne in the treatment area should inform the doctor. A patch test may be conducted beforehand to rule out hypersensitivity.

💉 Before PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Therapy

PRP therapy is a regenerative treatment using your own blood platelets to stimulate hair growth or rejuvenate your skin. It’s a minimally invasive procedure but requires certain precautions.

✔️ Do’s:

  • Hydrate thoroughly: Drink 2–3 liters of water a day before and on the day of treatment

  • Eat a healthy meal: Avoid fasting as it may make you feel dizzy after blood draw

  • Stop smoking and caffeine for 24–48 hours before

  • Massage your scalp gently (if PRP is for hair) a few days before to improve circulation

❌ Don’ts:

  • Don’t take aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners for at least 5 days prior

  • Avoid alcohol and vitamin E supplements, which can also thin the blood

  • Don’t apply oils, serums, or styling products on the day of your scalp treatment

⚠️ Important Note:

If you have a bleeding disorder, low platelet count, or are undergoing chemotherapy, PRP may not be suitable. A medical evaluation at Dermacian will help determine eligibility.

💉 Before Botox Injections

Botox is a purified neurotoxin used to relax facial muscles and reduce dynamic wrinkles such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead creases. It’s quick, effective, and safe when done correctly.

✔️ Do’s:

  • Stay upright and hydrated before your appointment

  • Cleanse your face thoroughly to remove any makeup or lotions

  • Let your doctor know if it’s your first time—you’ll receive customized dosing

❌ Don’ts:

  • Avoid blood-thinning agents like aspirin, green tea, garlic, and fish oil

  • Don’t schedule Botox right before a workout—you should rest for 24 hours after

  • Skip facials or massages 2–3 days before and after the session

⚠️ Important Note:

If you are pregnant, nursing, or have neuromuscular disorders, Botox is not recommended. A detailed consultation will cover these points.
