Fouad Idbafdil’s journey is one that begins with displacement but soars into a narrative of global recognition. Born in Morocco, Fouad’s early life was filled with promise as a competitive athlete. However, political instability and personal circumstances forced him into exile, placing him among the countless individuals navigating life without a homeland.

Yet, exile did not extinguish his will. Instead, it reshaped it.

Today, Fouad competes as a member of the Athlete Refugee Team (ART)—a unique initiative by the International Olympic Committee that gives stateless and displaced athletes the chance to compete at the world’s highest levels. In steeplechase events, where barriers and water jumps test physical endurance and focus, Fouad thrives. These hurdles symbolize more than athletic challenges—they mirror the obstacles he’s overcome outside the track.

His presence on the international stage is not just about winning medals. It’s about visibility. It’s about proving that even those who have lost their national identity can still rise, represent, and inspire. Every race is a statement: that talent knows no borders and that resilience can redefine destiny.

Fouad now uses his platform to spotlight refugee voices, advocate for displaced communities, and encourage young athletes from similar backgrounds to pursue their dreams against the odds.

From exile to excellence, his journey isn’t just personal—it’s emblematic of a larger struggle for identity, dignity, and a place in the world.
