In a democracy like India, the voice of the people matters. But what happens when an entire community is affected by injustice and no one is listening? That is where a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) enters the scene — a strong legal weapon that can be used by any citizen to approach the court in the interest of those whose rights are being denied.A Public Interest Litigation is a petition filed in court to secure public interest. It is distinct from private litigation in that the petitioner need not be directly affected, anyone can file it on behalf of others who cannot.

India is rising in all aspects-in technology, infrastructure, innovation, but also in suicide rates .India has a very high suicide rate globally.

WeDidIT feel that the time for small talk is over. They have petitioned the Supreme Court with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to make mental health education compulsory in all Indian schools because it’s a requirement. As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), over 1.7 lakh individuals lost their lives to suicide in 2023 alone, with youth between 15–29 years. students drowning under academic pressure, teenagers silently struggling with anxiety, children going through bullying or trauma without having any kind of support.

One of the greatest failures within our education system today is the total lack of formal mental health education. Schools teach students to pass exams, find careers, and compete but not how to deal with emotional pain, stress, or self-awareness.Many children pass through the school system without ever being taught how to recognize anxiety, how to communicate their feelings, or where to turn for help. The silence on mental health in schools is not only negligence but also hazardous. We learn mathematics, science, and language in schools but not how to deal with sorrow, stress, or self-doubt. That needs a change.

If you agree that mental health education must be a part of every Indian classroom, we urge you to support the movement by signing the petition here:

🔗 Sign the Petition: India — The Suicide Capital of the World | Mandate Mental Health Education in Schools

Every signature is a step closer to making mental health a priority not an afterthought. Let’s do this, together.
