What is a Binary Tree?

Binary trees are fundamental data structures in computer science, forming the basis of many advanced algorithms and applications. A binary tree is a hierarchical structure where each node has up to two children, typically referred to as the left and right child.

Introduction to Binary Search Tree (BST)

A specialized form of binary tree, the Binary Search Tree (BST), maintains sorted order by ensuring all nodes in the left subtree are less than the parent node, and all nodes in the right subtree are greater. This property enables fast searching, insertion, and deletion — usually in O(log n) time for balanced trees.

Recursive Tree Traversals Explained

Traversing a binary tree means visiting each node systematically. Recursive tree traversals come in three main types:

Inorder (Left, Root, Right): Visits nodes in ascending order in BSTs.

Preorder (Root, Left, Right): Useful for copying or serializing trees.

Postorder (Left, Right, Root): Commonly used for deleting nodes and evaluating expressions.

Why Master These Concepts?

Mastering binary trees, BST, and their recursive traversals is vital for efficient coding and problem-solving in Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA). Whether building search systems, compilers, or database indices, these structures form the foundation of robust software solutions.
