Orthopaedic conditions or diseases affect the body’s musculoskeletal system-the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. These disorders can significantly impact mobility, comfort, and an individual’s overall quality of life. Untreated cases can lead to other complications. Orthopedic conditions may start mild but turn severe, severely limiting mobility, if left untreated. Listed below are the seven most common orthopedic conditions with their treatment options by the orthopaedic doctors at Best Orthopaedic Clinic in Hyderabad.

1. Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is among the most common orthopedic complaints. Almost everyone experiences it at some point in their lives. Mild cases often resolve spontaneously. But chronic pain or severe intensity may present an underlying problem that requires medical attention.

Severity is essential in determining the types of treatment. Relief is sometimes obtained through either medications, rest, or physical therapy for one group of patients, whereas those with persistent pain may require surgical intervention.

2. Knee Pain

Knee pain is not just for the athlete-it affects people in all walks of life. It is often an acute injury, one caused by overuse or by degenerative diseases, such as osteoarthritis.

In mild cases, physical therapy and changing lifestyle may help. In more severe cases, or if structural issues are involved, injections, and/or one of the surgical approaches such as arthroscopy or knee replacement may be needed.

3. Hamstring Injuries

Hamstring injuries are prevalent in sports that involve sprinting, such as soccer or football. These injuries usually include strains or tears to the muscles in the back of the thigh.

Treatment usually involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) in conjunction with guided physiotherapy. Surgery may be needed in case of complete tears or if the patient is prone to recurring injury.

4. Plantar Fasciitis

When the thick tissue attached from the heel bone to the toes becomes inflamed, this is known as plantar fasciitis. It is characterized by stabbing pain in the heel that is especially prominent with the first few steps taken in the morning.

Middle-aged adults and older adults are most commonly affected, but it can occur at any age. Standard treatment methods include stretching exercises, physical therapy, orthotic shoe inserts, and, in some cases, corticosteroid injection.

5. Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a condition in which there is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. The curvature may take on an "S" or "C" shape and is often noticed during the adolescent period. It is a myth that poor posture causes scoliosis; its origin is often unknown.

Billy's scoliosis should be assiduously monitored, with regular check-ups. If the curve is found to be progressive, bracing may be prescribed to halt further worsening. In the worst-case scenario, spinal fusion surgery could be used to correct the alignment.

6. Hip Fractures

These injuries are severe among older adults, and usually result from falls or conditions such as osteoporosis that weaken the bones. Prompt surgical treatment of a hip fracture will help to minimize subsequent health problems and permanent disability.

Most hip fractures require surgical repair, which will be followed by rehabilitation. Strategies to maintain strong bones with adequate nutrition, exercise, and fall prevention strategies will help to reduce risks.

7. Arthritis

Arthritis is a general term for inflammation in the joints. Symptoms include pain, stiffness, and limited movement. Although there are several forms, the most common ones are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Factors that increase one's risk include age, gender (more common in women), and family history.

Treatment consists of anti-inflammatory medications, exercises to support the joint, massage, acupuncture, and, in advanced cases, joint replacement surgery. If diagnosed and treated early, the progression of the illness can be slowed and pain alleviated.
