"Yes, I Failed GATE After Months of Preparation — But Here's What I Learned from It"

👋 Hello! Thanks for reading my blog 🙏
✍️ This isn’t AI-written — it’s me, writing everything with my own hands, from my journey.

💔 Yes, I said I failed GATE…
Sorry — not failed, rather I learnt a lot from it, which I feel is more than a good rank in GATE from my perspective.

📚 Before telling you how I failed, let me give a small intro about me:
I’m a student who loves books — not for ranks, not for great positions, but because I truly try to find knowledge, share knowledge, and learn everything.
This mindset made me a topper in school days, in college, and that’s what attracted me to GATE — despite its heavy syllabus.
So I decided to give GATE 2025.

🕰️ Now let me tell you how I prepared for GATE along with college.
But first, I want to make it very clear:

👉 I PREPARED FOR MONTHS — NOT LESS THAN 6!

Even thinking about those preparation days brings me pain (for not qualifying), but it also gave me strength to bounce back harder in life and career. 💪

⏰ My GATE Daily Routine:

  • Wake up at 4:30 AM

  • From then, I used to read books and make notes till 6:30 AM

  • Go to college from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM (with a 3-hour bus journey 🚌)

  • After coming home, without any delay, I would start preparation again

  • Till 11:00 PM, I used to watch PW classes / problem solving / and all and all…

🗂️ I divided subjects based on syllabus and months.

📓 There are nearly 8 full notebooks I wrote completely!
You can’t think that during holidays I used to give 13–15 hours daily — with only two breaks in a whole day!

📝 I’ve shared some real pages of my GATE notes here

Mistakes I Made ❌lessons i lernt:

1️⃣ Attempted all
(When I was sure about 40+ answers and still had time, I thought I should try and attempt the remaining — this cost me.)

2️⃣ Focused more on some subjects
(Instead of switching to other subjects when their allocated time was over.)

3️⃣ Not Creating a Positive Environment
(I underestimated how much surroundings affect your mindset.)

4️⃣ Didn’t Revise Enough
(You must revise at least 3 times before attempting the actual exam.)

5️⃣ Ignored Learnings from Mock Tests
(Didn't analyze deeply — every mock teaches something.)

🧠 Strategies For You:

1️⃣ Have a Strong Planning Structure
If you're not sure about your plan, don't attempt GATE blindly. Even if planning takes a week, that’s fine — it’s worth it.

2️⃣ Revise, Revise, Revise! 🔁
Revision is your power. Don’t skip it.

3️⃣ Make Clear Notes 📝
Well-written notes = 50% chance of a good rank. Don’t underestimate them.

4️⃣ Attempt Only When 100% Sure
Even if you're 98% confident, I still recommend — please don't go for it. GATE is not about attempts — it's about accuracy.

5️⃣ Give Many Mock Tests 🎯
Track your performance honestly. Improve with each one.
