Gary Kirsten expressed his delight at Gautam Gambhir’s accomplishments as the Indian team’s head coach. The former India head coach praised Gambhir following India’s impressive performance against England in the recently concluded five-match Test series, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Shubman Gill and his teammates staged a remarkable comeback in the final Test at The Oval, London, securing a thrilling six-run victory. Fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna spearheaded a strong pace attack, bowling out England for 367 in the second innings while defending a challenging target of 374.
Siraj emerged as the series’ top wicket-taker with 23 wickets in five matches, playing a key role in India’s wins at Edgbaston and The Oval. Gary Kirsten, Meanwhile, Gill dominated with the bat, scoring 754 runs including four centuries, earning him the Player of the Series award.

Speaking at an event in Delhi, Gary Kirsten shared his happiness over Gautam Gambhir’s achievements with the Indian cricket team. “I’m really happy for the Indian team leveling the series — it’s fantastic for Indian cricket. I’m especially pleased for Gautam Gambhir, whom I know well. It’s truly delightful to see what he has accomplished with the team,” Gary Kirsten said.
“Gary Kirsten,They’re performing exceptionally well right now. We all get excited by the Indian team’s success, and I’m no different. With a promising group of young players emerging, it’s an exciting time to support them,” he added.
Gautam Gambhir was appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team in July last year. Under his leadership, India clinched the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, he also faced criticism following India’s home Test series loss to New Zealand and their performance in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Looking ahead, Gambhir’s focus shifts to the Asia Cup 2025, beginning on September 9 in the UAE. India will aim to defend their title in the T20I-format tournament, competing in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman.
