MS Dhoni took over as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during IPL 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined midway through the tournament due to an elbow injury. The former India captain has finally addressed speculation about his future in the IPL, where talk of his retirement has been ongoing for several seasons. Despite this, Dhoni has remained a consistent presence in the league, continuing to contribute as a player.

Before IPL 2024, MS Dhoni passed the captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Gaikwad’s injury in IPL 2025 after five matches forced Dhoni back into the leadership role. Unfortunately, CSK struggled throughout the season, finishing at the bottom of the points table and missing out on the playoffs.

The five-time champions ended the season with just eight points, winning four of their 14 games and losing 10, marking their second straight year of playoff absence.

Speaking at an event in Chennai, MS Dhoni shared that he still has plenty of time to decide on his comeback for IPL 2026. He also reaffirmed his deep bond with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), saying he will always wear the iconic yellow jersey.

“I’ve always said there’s ample time for me to make a decision. But if you’re asking whether I’ll be coming back in a yellow jersey, then yes—I’ll always be in yellow, whether I’m playing or not,” Dhoni said.

“CSK and I are inseparable. We’ll be together for the next 15-20 years, though I hope they don’t expect me to keep playing that long,” he added with a smile.

Recently, Dhoni also mentioned that the return of Ruturaj Gaikwad will strengthen CSK’s batting lineup for the upcoming season.

MS Dhoni has been with CSK since the IPL’s inaugural season in 2008. Under his leadership, the team has clinched five IPL championships. In IPL 2025, MS Dhoni scored 196 runs in 13 innings, maintaining a strike rate of 135.17.
