FoxData’s July 2025 mobile app performance report underscores a decisive trend in the global app market: video-centric and short-form content platforms are capturing not only large audiences but also the highest per-user revenue returns.

The latest rankings show Google Chrome leading in average daily active users (DAU) with 35.6 million, demonstrating the sustained dominance of utility-driven platforms.
WhatsApp Messenger and YouTube followed with 32.6 million and 32 million users, respectively. Meta Platforms’ Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram maintained significant positions through an interconnected ecosystem designed to retain and cross-engage users.
However, engagement frequency, which was measured through stickiness, told a more nuanced story.
Snapchat and Messenger, each achieving 17% stickiness, showed that niche platforms with high interaction rates can rival the user loyalty of larger services. YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook maintained strong but slightly lower stickiness levels between 14% and 16%, reflecting consistent daily return rates across vast audiences.
When monetization is isolated as a performance factor, the competitive order shifts.
YouTube outperformed all other high-DAU monetized apps with an ARPU of $0.0223, showing clear efficiency in converting viewership into revenue. Snapchat ranked second at $0.012, maintaining steady revenue performance despite a smaller overall user base. Facebook and Instagram posted minimal ARPU near $0.0003, indicating either early-stage monetization models or a strategic choice to prioritize engagement growth over immediate revenue extraction.
