Rashid Khan Concedes Record Runs in The Hundred as Birmingham Phoenix Stun Oval Invincibles

Afghanistan’s T20 captain Rashid Khan has been seeing ups and downs in form since the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). For the first time in his T20 career, he bowled at an economy of more than 9 for Gujarat Titans. Rashid could not do justice to his name in the domestic T20 league as well. He is now playing in England’s franchise league The Hundred. There he set an embarrassing record for the highest run-scoring in a match in the league.
Although the Afghan star ensured the team’s victory by taking 3 wickets each in the previous two matches for the Oval Invincibles. He won the best cricketer award in both matches. However, yesterday (Tuesday) was a bad day for Rashid. He gave away 59 runs in 20 balls. Which is the record for giving away the most runs by a bowler in a match of The Hundred. At the same time, he was wicketless. At the same time, this is the record for the highest run conceded in Rashid’s career in T20 or the shorter version.
Rashid had never had such a record of giving away so many runs in T20 or the shorter format before. Rather, this Afghan legspinner is a terror to the opposing batters. Rashid had previously given away a maximum of 55 runs in 4 overs in T20, that match for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2018 IPL was his worst. Apart from this, Rashid gave away 54 runs in 4 overs in two matches in the 2023 and 25 seasons, 51 runs in 4 overs in the 2024 season, and 50 runs in 3 overs in the last IPL.
Earlier, David Visa set the record for the highest innings of 53 runs in the English League The Hundred, although he took 1 wicket. Apart from this, David Paine took 53 for 1 wicket, Steven Finn took 51 for 1 wicket and Chris Wood took 49 runs for no wickets in The Hundred matches. Rashid Khan surpassed all of them for the Oval Invincibles yesterday.
The Afghan star’s bad experience also saw his team Oval Invincibles lose. Batting first against Birmingham Phoenix, they made a big capital of 180 runs for 8 wickets in the allotted 100 balls. For Oval, Donovan Pereira scored 63 runs off 29 balls and Jordan Cox scored 44 runs off 30 balls. Trent Boult, Adam Milne and Benny Howell took 2 wickets each for Birmingham.
Although The Oval built a big total, it was not enough for the victory, as devastating batsmen like Livingstone and Smith proved. Liam Livingstone scored 69 runs off 27 balls, while Will Smith scored 51 runs off 29 balls, securing Birmingham’s victory with 2 balls and 4 wickets in hand. The Oval’s English pacer Shakib Mahmud took 3 wickets.
