“Mera Desh, Meri Idhan, Meri Jaan!”: From Gautam to Kohli, Indian cricketers wish 79th Independence Day

India is celebrating its 79th Independence Day today, from 1947 till now India has come a journey which has been full of courage, sacrifice and unity.

Just like a tough cricket match, the struggle for independence also saw many people playing different roles, and every effort was crucial to achieving the ultimate goal. From the leaders working on the frontlines to those working quietly behind the scenes, every contribution shaped the country’s victory.

Indian cricketers extend wishes

As the tricolour flies high across the country, members of the Indian cricket fraternity joined in the celebrations by sharing their heartfelt wishes with fans on social media.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted on its official x handle and wrote, “Happy Independence Day to all Indians, Jai Hind.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolour at the Red Fort as the nation celebrated the 79th Independence Day. Flying Officer Rashika Sharma assisted the Prime Minister in the flag hoisting ceremony, following which flower showers were conducted from two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force – one carrying the national flag and the other carrying the ‘Operation Sindoor’ flag. Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal piloted the aircraft.
