The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has officially reinstated its founder, Dr. S. Ramadoss, as the party’s president, granting him exclusive decision-making powers over alliances, candidate selection, and internal strategy. The resolution was passed during the party’s special general council meeting held at Pattanur near the Villupuram–Puducherry border on Sunday.

In total, 37 resolutions were adopted, including amendments to 13 rules and the introduction of a new Rule 35, which centralises authority in the hands of Dr. Ramadoss. The rule specifies that only the president is permitted to negotiate alliances or sign nomination papers, thereby restricting other office-bearers from making electoral commitments.

The meeting also saw the party’s disciplinary committee present a detailed report citing 16 charges against Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, recommending corrective action amid the ongoing internal rift.

The gathering was attended by over 4,000 members, including senior leaders such as honorary president G.K. Mani, general secretary Murali Sankar, and Vanniyar Sangam state president P.T. Arulmozhi. With an estimated crowd of nearly 8,000 participants, leaders described it as a strong show of unity and cadre support.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ramadoss said:

“This council has placed its full trust in me. I will honour this responsibility by building an alliance that ensures victory and strengthens PMK’s role in Tamil Nadu politics.”

The move re-establishes Dr. Ramadoss as the central authority within PMK, shaping the party’s direction ahead of crucial electoral challenges.
