Solana Achieves Record Throughput: Over 100,000 TPS

Solana has just set a new benchmark in blockchain performance. On August 17th, the network surpassed 107,540 transactions per second (TPS) during a stress test, making it the first blockchain to achieve such speed, according to Mert Mumtaz, co-founder of Helius.
Stress Test Insights
During the test, a single block processed 43,016 transactions, with only 50 failures. Most transactions were no-op (no operation) transactions designed to test the network’s throughput rather than execute real computations.
Even with these specifics, Solana can theoretically handle 80,000–100,000 TPS for standard blockchain operations, including token transfers, oracle updates, and DeFi interactions.
Real-World Performance
In real conditions, the network’s throughput is lower:
Current TPS (Solscan): ~3,700
Effective TPS (excluding validator consensus operations): 1,004–1,050
This still makes Solana approximately 59 times faster than Ethereum, highlighting its efficiency and potential for high-performance applications.
User Adoption and Activity
Solana’s performance is matched by strong user activity:
80.9 million active addresses in the last month
2.4 billion transactions processed
Major activities: Meme coins and DeFi
Popular platforms: Pump.fun (meme coin generator) and Jupiter (DEX aggregator)
Market Performance and TVL
According to DeFi Llama, Solana’s Total Value Locked (TVL) recently surpassed $10.4 billion, slightly below its all-time high of $11.7 billion in January 2025. Despite this, the SOL token is trading at $181, down 5.7% in the last 24 hours amid broader market corrections. On August 14th, SOL briefly exceeded $205, its highest since July.
Why Solana’s TPS Record Matters
