Women’s World Cup: Top 5 All-Time Leading Run Scorers

The Indian women's squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 has been officially announced. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team as captain, with Smriti Mandhana named as her deputy. This will mark the 13th edition of the prestigious tournament, which first took place in England in 1973—notably, two years before the inaugural men’s World Cup. Australia remains the most successful team in the competition’s history, having clinched the title seven times. Throughout the decades, the Women’s World Cup has witnessed numerous legendary performances, with many iconic players leaving a lasting impact through their consistency and unforgettable innings. Today, in this article, we are going to learn about the top 5 batsmen who scored the most runs in the ICC Women’s World Cup.
1. Debbie Hockley (New Zealand) – 1,501 Runs
Former New Zealand Women’s Team batsman Debbie Hockley holds the record for the most runs in Women’s World Cup history. Across five World Cups from 1982 to 2000, she amassed 1,501 runs in 45 matches at an average of 42.05. She was the first woman to score over 1,000 runs in World Cup history. Hockley’s final World Cup was in 2000, which was especially memorable as New Zealand won the tournament, and she played a key role in their victory.
2. Mithali Raj (India) – 1,321 Runs
India’s batting icon, Mithali Raj, is second on the all-time list with 1,321 runs in 31 World Cup matches, with an average of 47.17 in World Cups. She played 6 Women's World Cups between 2000 and 2022. Unfortunately, she didn’t win any World Cups in her career. She carried the Indian batting line-up for over two decades. Her contributions were crucial in India’s runs to the finals in 2005 and 2017. She is the only woman to have captained India in more than one World Cup final (2005 and 2017), and she remains one of the greatest batters in the history of women’s cricket.
3. Janette Brittin (England) – 1,299 Runs
Former England women's team batter Janette Brittin is third in this list, who scored 1,299 runs in 36 matches. She played 4 World Cups between 1982 to 1997. She played with an average of over 43 in World Cups. She played a key role in England’s 1993 Women’s World Cup victory. She was often the backbone of the England batting order. Brittin passed away in 2017, but her legacy in women’s cricket lives on.
4. Charlotte Edwards (England) – 1,231 Runs
Another English legend, Charlotte Edwards, scored 1,231 runs in 30 matches, including 4 centuries and 7 half-centuries. She represented England's women's team in 5 World Cups between 1997 and 2013. She played with an outstanding average of 53.52. Edwards brought a modern attacking approach to women’s cricket. She captained England to World Cup victory in 2009 and was instrumental in many of their triumphs.
5. Suzie Bates (New Zealand) – 1,179 Runs
New Zealand’s Suzie Bates rounds out the top five with 1,179 runs across four World Cups from 2009 to 2022. Suzie Bates has officially played in 4 Women's World Cups (2009–2022). If she participates in the 2025 World Cup, it would be her 5th. She has hit 4 centuries and 5 half-centuries in her women's World Cup career so far. She is still active in cricket and has a great opportunity to lead this list in the upcoming cricket matches of the Women's World Cup 2025. Known for her aggressive batting and athleticism, Bates has been one of the most consistent performers for the White Ferns.
