Breaking News: BCCI Set to Replace Two Selectors Following Asia Cup 2025 Squad Reveal

The BCCI has extended chief selector Ajit Agarkar’s tenure by another year. Board invited applications to fill four vacancies on the women’s selection panel and two positions in the five-member senior men’s national committee.
The eligibility criteria remain unchanged. Applicants must have played at least 30 First-Class matches or seven Tests. Those with 20 First-Class games or 10 One Day Internationals (ODIs) will also be considered.
“The selectors’ contracts are renewed annually. We haven’t yet decided who will be replaced, but the process will begin shortly,” a BCCI official told PTI.
The current men’s selection committee is headed by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar and also features SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath. This panel recently finalized the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Two Members of Ajit Agarkar-Led BCCI Selection Panel Set to Be Replaced
The BCCI has announced that two members of the current men’s selection committee, headed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, will be replaced. One of them is South Zone selector S Sharath, who has completed his four-year tenure.
On Thursday, the board invited applications to fill the two vacant positions on the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. With Sharath’s term ending, attention now turns to which of the remaining members will make way. Since Ajay Ratra was appointed as the North Zone selector last year, the likely candidates for replacement are SS Das or Subroto Banerjee.
The changes come at a crucial time, as Indian cricket faces a packed home season and begins preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Agarkar himself has received a one-year extension to continue as chief selector.
Women’s and Junior Selection Committees Also in Focus
The BCCI is also seeking applicants for four vacancies on the Senior Women’s Selection Committee. Eligible candidates must be former India women cricketers and meet the standard requirements related to retirement and prior selection committee roles.
Additionally, a spot is open on the Junior Men’s Selection Committee, BCCI, which oversees team selections across all age groups up to Under-22, manages junior competitions, and ensures a strong feeder system for the senior national side.
