Greed and Indifference: The Twin Evils Behind MAGA Racism

The world has always wrestled with evil. Wars, dictatorships, slavery, and genocides have left scars on humanity that will never fade. Yet behind every atrocity, two forces stand at the root: greed and indifference. One exploits; the other permits. One reaches out with a hungry hand; the other folds its arms and watches. And today, these twin evils are alive and well in America, fueling the racism that hides behind the mask of MAGA Christianity.

Let’s not mince words—racism didn’t vanish after the Civil Rights Movement. It was never defeated. It adapted. It put on new clothes. No longer is it just burning crosses or “Whites Only” signs. Today it’s wrapped in slogans about “taking our country back,” chants about “America First,” and sermons preached from pulpits that substitute nationalism for the gospel of Christ. The enemy is the same—it has just rebranded.

At the heart of this twisted movement is greed. Politicians have discovered there is no faster way to rile up a base, fill campaign coffers, and lock in votes than by weaponizing racial fear. Greed has always fed off division. Slave traders got rich selling human beings. Segregationists got rich denying equal access. Today, power-hungry leaders enrich themselves by convincing Americans that immigrants are invaders, Black voices are threats, and anyone who challenges them is an enemy of God and country. Hate has become an industry, and MAGA is its storefront.

But greed could not do this alone. It needs a partner—and it has one in indifference. This is the silent killer. Evil never needs the majority to agree with it. It only needs the majority to look away. It thrives when people stay quiet at the dinner table, nod along at work, or sit in the church pew even when they know the sermon has been hijacked by politics instead of truth. Indifference is the oxygen that allows hate to burn. Without it, greed has no power. With it, greed can consume a nation.

Think about history. Hitler never commanded a majority. Jim Crow never had moral legitimacy. Apartheid never had justice on its side. These systems survived because enough people looked the other way, or told themselves it wasn’t their fight, or decided it was safer to stay silent than to stand up. Indifference is cowardice dressed up as peace. It is complicity in disguise.

Here’s the truth: silence is not neutral. When you remain silent in the face of racism, you have chosen a side—and it is not the side of justice. When you excuse it in your family, in your community, or in your church, you give it permission to grow.

That’s why this is the moment to act. We cannot afford to wait for “someone else” to fight this battle. We are the “someone else.” Every one of us has a role to play. You don’t have to be a politician or a preacher. You just have to be unwilling to let greed and indifference win.

Speak up. Call racism by its name. Refuse to let anyone wrap hate in the flag or in Scripture. Support leaders who build bridges instead of walls. Protect the vulnerable when they are targeted. And perhaps most importantly, refuse to be indifferent. Refuse to sit on the sidelines while others suffer.

The fight against MAGA-fueled racism is not a fight just for the targeted—it is a fight for the soul of America itself. If we lose this battle, we lose the very idea that freedom and justice belong to everyone, not just the privileged few.

Evil wins when good people do nothing. It’s that simple. And greed and indifference, these ancient enemies, are counting on us to do nothing.

So let’s prove them wrong. Let’s rise up with courage. Let’s be the generation that tears down the rebranded structures of hate and says, once and for all, that America’s future will not be sold to greed or surrendered to indifference.

The time is now. And the choice is ours. Stand up and fight against racism.

What Is White Equality Alliance? The White Equality Alliance is a newly launched grassroots movement committed to the belief that every race deserves equal respect, dignity, and the freedom to celebrate its heritage. If it’s acceptable to express pride in being Black, Latino, or Indigenous, then it should be just as acceptable for white people to express pride in their culture—without fear, shame, or accusation. We believe in the inherent worth of every human being, regardless of race or background. But in today’s climate, let’s be honest—there’s a clear double standard. While many forms of cultural pride are celebrated, white pride is often immediately labeled as hateful or racist. That’s not equality. That’s censorship by fear. At White Equality Alliance, we reject hate in all forms—and that includes the hate that comes from silencing certain voices. Pride in one’s heritage should never require tearing others down. Our mission is to create a space where white identity can be expressed in a healthy, respectful, and non-supremacist way—just like every other group is allowed to do. We’re just getting started, but our message is simple: Equality means everyone. If you believe in fairness, in honest conversation, and in the right of all people to celebrate who they are without shame or hostility—then we invite you to join us. Speak up. Stand with us. Help shape a future where pride doesn’t divide us—it reminds us that we all belong.
