India’s legal system is renowned for its resilience—but also for its agonizing delays. Citizens face years, even decades, of legal limbo due to entrenched inefficiencies.
In September 2024, The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, highlighted the issue of court delays. In her speech at the National Conference of the District Judiciary, President Murmu noted that these delays are what are making people hesitate approaching courts, as they fear that the pursuit of justice will complicate their lives further. She referred to this as the ‘black coat syndrome’. (The Hindu, 11th Oct, 2024)
Back in the year 2023, it was seen that cases pending in various courts in the country had crossed the five-crore mark. Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said over 5.02 crore cases were pending in various courts -- the Supreme Court, the 25 high courts and subordinate courts. (India Today, 21st July, 2023).
Since then, two years have passed. In today's fast-paced world, navigating the legal system still remains daunting for many—especially those with limited financial means or little legal literacy. It is admist this scenario that Middlemen.Asia, a non-profit initiative was founded in December 2024 by Sree Krishna Seelam under the WeDidIt Foundation, which today with it's unique strategies and approaches is shaking up the legal landscape. By leveraging AI and human-centered design, it makes justice not only accessible but also approachable and intelligent.
The MiddleMen Mission:
1. To replace legal fear with legal clarity
2. To empower citizens to act before they’re helpless
3. To challenge outdated, colonial legal language
4. To inspire a new India where law serves people, not power
