Videos of Rinku Singh requesting bats from Virat Kohli went viral during IPL 2024. Recently, the Indian batter spoke out about the clips, revealing that they had led to defamation and unwanted attention.

The incident occurred after a clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), when Kohli had gifted Rinku Singh a bat. Unfortunately, Rinku broke it and was seen approaching Kohli for a replacement, a moment that quickly went viral on social media and drew widespread trolling.

Ahead of IPL 2025, Rinku appears to have kept a low profile, refraining from asking for bats and staying away from the limelight.

Rinku Singh Responds to Viral Clips of Him Chasing Virat Kohli for Bats During IPL 2024

“I may have become a bit notorious,” Rinku Singh admits about chasing Virat Kohli for bats in IPL 2024.

In a recent interview with News24, Rinku Singh opened up about the viral videos that showed him chasing Virat Kohli for bats, saying they led to unnecessary defamation.

“Main thoda zyada badnaam ho gaya tha bat ke chakkar mein (I became infamous because of the bat). I used to meet him (Kohli) normally and then ask for a bat. The cameraman would follow me. It wasn’t being perceived well. It wasn’t good for me or bhaiya (Kohli) as the bat videos were going viral,” he explained.

Rinku Singh clarified that he did not chase Kohli for bats in IPL 2025, but did manage to get bats from MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.

“I wasn’t seen with Virat bhai this time (IPL 2025). But I did get Mahi bhai’s bat and Rohit bhai’s bat. It’s a big deal for me to get bats from such players. I have also given a lot of bats myself—those who need them can get them, but I don’t give bats to players who have contracts,” he added.

On the field, Rinku Singh was a key contributor to KKR’s IPL 2024 title-winning campaign, scoring 168 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 148.37. He continued his strong form in IPL 2025, accumulating 206 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 153.73.

Off the IPL circuit, Rinku Singh is set to represent India in the Asia Cup 2025, starting September 9 in the UAE. Meanwhile, he is leading the Meerut Mavericks as captain in the ongoing UP T20 League 2025.
