The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that higher education institutions (HEIs) will no longer be allowed to offer courses in healthcare and allied disciplines, including psychology, nutrition, microbiology, biotechnology, and clinical nutrition, via Open and Distance Learning (ODL) or online mode starting from the 2025 academic session. This directive is in line with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021, which regulates education standards in allied and healthcare fields. UGC Secretary Manish Joshi stated that any recognition previously granted to HEIs for offering such programs online or through distance learning from July-August 2025 onwards will be withdrawn. The move aims to ensure quality, practical training, and regulatory compliance in healthcare and allied professions, which cannot be fully delivered through remote learning methods. Institutions and students planning to enroll in such courses are advised to adjust their academic plans accordingly and pursue regular, in-person programs to meet professional standards and accreditation requirements.
