Cleveland Cavaliers forward Max Strus will be out for the next three to four months after having successful surgery on his left foot, the NBA team announced. Strus injured a Jones fracture, which is a break in the bone connecting the small toe to the foot, during off-season training.

The surgery took place in Indianapolis, and he is expected to return to basketball activities in three to four months. The Cavaliers will start their 2025-26 NBA season on October 22 in New York.

Last season, Strus played 50 games, starting 37, and averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, helping Cleveland achieve the best regular-season record in the Eastern Conference at 64-18.

Last season, Strus recorded his best playoff numbers, averaging 11.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists, although Cleveland lost in the second round to the Indiana Pacers.

The 29-year-old, who went undrafted, began his NBA career with Chicago in 2019-20, then played three seasons with Miami. He joined the Cavaliers in 2023 on a four-year contract worth $63 million.

Strus also missed the first six weeks of last season due to a right ankle sprain.
