Ex-India Cricketer Calls Gautam Gambhir a Hypocrite Ahead of Asia Cup 2025

Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has strongly criticized Indian Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir, calling him hypocritical. Tiwary referred to Gambhir’s earlier statement that India shouldn’t play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, suggesting that he should resign.
Gautam Gambhir has been in the news recently, especially following the announcement of India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad. The head coach faced backlash for dropping key players, including Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal, while selecting Shubman Gill—who has been out of the T20I setup since 2024.
Earlier, after the Pahalgam attack, Gambhir had openly stated that India should avoid playing Pakistan. Ironically, he will now be leading the Indian team in Asia Cup 2025, where India is scheduled to face Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Gautam Gambhir a Hypocrite, Says Manoj Tiwary
Recalling past statements, Manoj Tiwary criticized Gautam Gambhir, calling him a “big hypocrite” and suggesting that the coach should resign instead of being part of India’s game against Pakistan.
“I’ve always felt he’s a hypocrite,” Tiwary told CrickTracker. “He previously said that India should never play Pakistan when he wasn’t the coach. Now, as the coach of the team facing Pakistan in the Asia Cup, what will he do? Why can’t he just resign and say he won’t be part of Team India because they are playing Pakistan?”
Tiwary also slammed Gautam Gambhir for excluding Yashasvi Jaiswal from India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, despite Gambhir previously praising Jaiswal as a future star who should play in all formats.
“He (Gautam Gambhir) once said Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the future pillars of Team India and shouldn’t be kept out of T20 cricket. He deserves a longer run. Yet now, he’s not in the squad,” Tiwary remarked.
“Beyond these statements, there are many instances where he said one thing and did the opposite. I’ve always believed he’s a hypocrite, and that hasn’t changed,” Tiwary concluded.
