Step 3: Setup a Win10 VM

I forgot to update my progress on the blog, but yesterday I spun up a Windows 10 VM on Proxmox VE, and to my surprise (after the much longer time it took to sort out pfSense), the process was incredibly quick and easy.
Steps I followed:
Get the ISO – Downloaded the Windows 10 ISO using the Media Creation Tool on my local machine.
Upload to Proxmox – In the Proxmox interface:
- Datacenter > local-iso (node-name) > ISO Images > Upload, then selected the ISO.
Create the VM – Followed the setup process, ensuring I picked:
Type: Windows
Version: 10/2016/2019
It’s still not quite as effortless as spinning up a Windows 10 VM in VirtualBox (since that doesn’t require a separate ISO download), but hey, that’s the trade-off for more control.
After getting the VM up and running, I installed RSAT tools, since my next step is setting up an Active Directory server on a Windows Server 2022 VM. More on that very soon!
