As developers, we solve complex problems daily, but sometimes the biggest impact is outside our code. India's facing a crisis: over 8,000 students die by suicide annually, many due to academic pressure and mental health issues. A petition on Change.org, "India: The Suicide Capital of the World - Mandate Mental Health Education in Schools," by Sree Krishna Sellam, calls for mandatory mental health education in schools. This would teach students about well-being, stress management, and help-seeking, akin to early bug detection in our projects.
Mental health education can reduce stigma, build resilience, and create supportive environments, much like how we foster collaboration in tech teams. As developers, we understand preventive measures; this is one for human lives. Sign, comment, and share the petition at this link. Learn more at the WeDidit Foundation their website and follow Sree Krishna Sellam on social media.
