England defeated India by five wickets at Headingley, Leeds, to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The England cricket team got off to a strong start in the five-match Test series against India by securing an impressive five-wicket victory at Headingley, thereby gaining the upper hand in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Although England, who bowled first, had a tough beginning with little going their way in the opening innings, India’s batting lineup shone brightly. Three centurions—Yashasvi Jaiswal (101), Shubman Gill (147), and Rishabh Pant (134)—helped India post a massive total of 471 runs.

England responded with resilience in their first innings. Ollie Pope scored a remarkable century (106), supported by a strong 99-run innings from Harry Brook, which put India under pressure. Despite a five-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah, England fell just short of India’s total, scoring 465 runs.

Trailing by only six runs, India once again displayed strong batting. KL Rahul crafted an excellent century (137), with Rishabh Pant following up with his second hundred of the match (118). However, like in their first innings, India lost wickets rapidly towards the end and managed 364 runs, setting England a target of 371 runs to win.

In the chase, England’s batting was outstanding. Openers Zak Crawley (65) and Ben Duckett (149) laid a solid foundation with a 188-run opening partnership. Duckett’s aggressive and dominant innings particularly stood out.

Although India took wickets at regular intervals, they could not halt the flow of runs. Joe Root (53 not out) and Jamie Smith (44 not out) steadied the innings to guide England to victory with five wickets to spare.

*Gautam Gambhir will be remembered as the weakest Coach of team India.

He is worst than Greg Chappell. [pic.twitter.com/2w9IGe0HQG*](https://t.co/2w9IGe0HQG)

*Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.

These guys took charge of India against the politics of Virat Kohli and all the PR.

Ended the drought of ICC trophies after 13 long years.

And they were ripped apart for losing a test series with young lads.
