Partho Dasgupta (born 26 November 1965, Ranchi, India) is an Indian media entrepreneur and management professional renowned for his pivotal contributions to the country's audience measurement ecosystem and media management. He is best known for serving as the founding CEO of BARC India (Broadcast Audience Research Council) and currently holds the position of Managing Partner at Thoth Advisors.

Early Life and Education

Dasgupta completed his schooling at South Point High School in Kolkata. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.

Career

Dasgupta’s early career involved leadership roles in print and broadcast media, including positions at The Economic Times, Times Now, Future Media, and Times Multimedia. He later became the founding CEO of BARC India, where he developed the country’s first transparent, technology-driven television audience measurement system. Under his leadership, BARC established the world’s largest and most representative viewership panel, introduced advanced data infrastructure such as M2M and big data, and promoted unbiased, multi-stakeholder governance.

In later years, Dasgupta transitioned into advisory roles. As Managing Partner at Thoth Advisors, he guides CEOs and boards on growth strategies, mergers and acquisitions, and technology deployment across consumer and media sectors.

Achievements and Recognition

Under Dasgupta's stewardship, BARC India was repeatedly ranked among the “Best Places to Work.” He has received numerous honors, including Media CEO of the Year and Media Person of the Year. He was also listed among Forbes India’s Top 100 People Managers and served as President of The Advertising Club of India from 2019 to 2021.

Personal Life and Interests

Dasgupta is married and has one daughter studying law. His spouse teaches at the Bombay International School, and he has an elder sister residing in Kolkata. He is passionate about automobiles and gadgets, is a speed and technology enthusiast, and enjoys watching documentaries on history and espionage themes.
